Get back on the rail?

Its fourth week after honours started, non of the things are getting right!

The research is still on its developmental stage, idea after idea, its just not working after all..how am I going to answer any question such as ' Is micro-textured surfaces affect microbial attachment and biofilm formation?'

The plan was looking into the microbial community that could attach to the surfaces, but I dun even know whether they are able to attach to the surface or not. Sounds acceptable? well Supervisors been away for a conference..hope things will be better when I discuss the issue with them..but right now, at least I am grabbing the mood to go back to lab. Stay in the lab for 15-16hours on friday, which is 'longest' period since I started honours...

Getting the mood to do something is reli important, most crucial thing to get something done! Anyway, cant wait to talk to my supervisor about my current situation and hope to get some clue where I should head to..

How I feel VS What I want?

Is there anyone who could tell me that they understand how I feel recently or what I want?

This is a really tricky question for myself too...I feel unsatisfy with my research, things getting into shape day after day, but still its not something worth happy for..cz its not solution after all..I feel lonely when I am alone, I feel depressed when I think of my research, I feel relief when I look at the sky, no matter its during the day time with clear blue sky or night sky..What else I could feel? Why I feel this way..the reason is easy, I wish I could share with someone..or anyone just because I couldn't find this 'someone' at the moment..sounds pathetic?

What I want? I wana go home, I wana do research, I wana eat alot of stuff..BUT there is always but..my careers is here in aus and not in Malaysia, I don't wana keep failing in research, I dun wana keep gaining weight..why I can't just do what I want without any thought of worrying..Why am hesitating of doing something that I like?

My medical examination shows I have low blood pressure on that day..I wont know whether I have it always but I do not have any symptom of developing that..someone told me I could have anemia..could feel dizzy easily...Somehow it reminds of my brother, a long lost brother who had anemia when he was 8years old..Am I sad in another mean?

Why am I saying all this, why am I talking nonsense..just because I don't understand myself good enough..Could anyone...lend me a hand to answer my question?

The loneliness and Homesickness

Having to leave home to study abroad might be a good start for a successful career, however, it could also leading into another end of the world for you in the other point of view.

Study and learning is a process to enrich and enhance one's skills and knowledge. You get to learn something that those staying back in the homeland will never get into touch with. You get to receive an exceptional experience. You will get to see something different. You will get to know someone you would never encounter in your lifetime if you stay home.

Leave home alone having to face the world by oneself is cruel for some people. Its something loneliness would fill most of the time, no matter how busy you are, you will get to the feeling of loneliness..Why would I felt so..Let me tell you some statistic, I have only seen my Grandma for 5days in 2008 up to date, its only 5 days!! well, it could be unforgetable but I would say its pathetic. I could only meet my mom and dad for 28 days in 2008. The rest will be having seeing them on my monitor through msn video chat. How cruel is that and how could that be. I am more of a person to be with family. it could also because I have no girlfriend in particular, causing me having too much time to think over and over again..

Looking at the sky is purely the best moment that I could have in Sydney..having a deep blue sky, seeing more colourful sky during evening is even a kind of enjoyment for me.

Volleyball doesn't bring me much of fun anymore, I do not join any competition, not being competitive is not much of a fun in playing sport for me. Just lack of the confidence, intention to play good volleyball anymore. Its somehow a kind of routine to play it just for health! Talk about health, I have just gone through a medical examination for the purpose of extending my student visa, some problem is I have LOW BLOOD Pressure..anyone know what could that cause me in terms of health problem? I am too lazy to google it at the moment..

Walking all the way up to Randwick from Uni when I got home just now..my thought of the day was - Will I be addicted to Coffee? I found it smells nice when I walk across a cafe, the aroma..

Philip Island - Penguin Parade (Day 4)

Waking up in the aroma of 'Pork Porridge with slices of Ginger', prepared by Shih Chin right before she went for work. Its a complete win and 100% breakfast! Had bowls after bowls of porridge while waiting for ZHi Yin and CHan Kit to wake up.

Today's schedule isnt that packed at all, penguin parade will only start at 1.30pm meeting point in CBD. Out of the house right before 12pm thanks to Zhi Yin. haha...ALright I am not gona keep complaining about Zhi Yin but she did reli woke up the last wor..and spent ages in the bathroom...Anyway..have to rush to CHinatown Provinct to get the plastic container of Zhi Yin which I left it in the German restaurant night before. Find it pretty easy to find in Melbourne CBD. Anyway this trip I have used the most of the time looking at maps..

Reached meeting point just on time..and get going in a huge bus taking up to 40 ppl..=='' Drive for almost an hour having a fantastic tour guide + driver + commentator..the beautiful voice causing Zhi Yin to fall asleep within a minute..Geng Mou?? First stop is a wild life farm, well its not reli fascinating yet beautiful view because its raining when we just got down from the Bus... pity us! Second stop is a Koala Conservation farm, with limited koala..4 in total if i am not mistaken..and there is like have to walk to a few miles just to spot them..omg..Nearly losing my patience too...

Now drive all the way to Philip Island, went pass Grandprix venue on the way, and get to the Penguin Parade Centre. Have a pretty cute picture of a Warning Sign of 'BEWARE of PENGUIN when U leave, cause some of the time the llittle penguin could get to the carpark area and just be much more care not to run over them'. Walking into the centre with heaps and heaps of souvenirs, but first and most important thing is to grab a good place to watch those little penguin from the beach. Waiting and waiting patiently for about 30min, first group of little penguins coming up from the water, BUT unfortunately its in the other far end of the watching tower..so its a bit of disappointment. Keep waiting for another 30min and there you go, PENGUINS!!!

Having look at those little penguins walking up the beach to go back to their nest..ALL of A SUDDEN, it rains heavily..forcing us to go under the cover, THE scene is more like we are the PENGUINs who walk slowly to look for cover since it is so much crowded...poor us, soaked in the rain and Wind = Shake! Not penguins, its US! Well, its not a bad idea of walking up the hill now back into the centre because there is plenty of penguins along the way, Just separated with those penguins in 5cm wired pathway...so its reli reli reli close to them.. CUTE!

Finished with penguins..another 2hrs drive to go back to Melbourne CBD. reached home around 10+, hmm...its time to PLan for tmr's itinerary!! Chapel St, Casino....

Holiday heatsss

Wake up in Day 2 of our trip, essential rest for another day of fun! Rest is never enough, somehow we have to get going because the pick up point for Great Ocean Road Tour is the other end of the Melbourne CBD, we started drinking our 3-in-1 Milo quicker and quicker..Luckily packing was done before we sleep..Shih Chin witnessed how we started lagging in everything and all of a sudden ---its 7.05am, our meeting time would be 7.45am..OMG

Step out of the house, and the building, eventually we felt strong chilling wind rushing past us and the only thing come into my mind would be - How warm is it in the house..?? Oh shit..there is still 2km to go to to the pickup point..we started walking in quicker pace..7.25am..another warning, we started running on the street like mad..haha

Well, in the end, we make it!! and Its 7.45am sharp!! BUT its critical cz I need a washroom!! reli reli in a hurry! somehow the tour guide, which I forgot his name at the moment (felt bad)..told me that he will pick up somebody else from elsewhere..and the next stop is --> tada...right in front of Shih Chin's place!!! WHY DO WE HAVE TO RUN AT ALL??? but anywhere the pickup point was decided when I booked the backpacker, we change our accom after all..cant blame anyone..what a waste? The next thing that interest me before we hit the road is we pick up a pretty girl who come from Netherland! a real pretty one..Zhi Yin being so bored cz I kept asking her how could I talk to her or take picture with her..lol Well we hit the road..starting with introduced ourselves to ppl sitting around..or else we will have to sing all the way...which we all don't want to..and we get to know a couple from England, they told me n ZY their travel story right before they come to this trip..reli interesting! They spent sometime back in New Zealand before they come to Melbourne just to save money to travel..next stop would be United Stated..what a cool experience!! Like it so much!! Having fun chatting with them..

Anyway, it will be 3 hours drive since we are heading to the far end of the Great Ocean Road, have a tea break at a small town, lunch in a place where Woolworth locked their washroom..forcing everyone to stay out of the washroom..poor us..Its not only me this time..so fair enough..I could say this out loudly I guess..haha Anyway..lunch --> Subway! with the bread that we have bought earlier! and I bought another can of baked bean which I cant finish..XP..Well we had our lunch in a place sort of like national park..had a short walk looking around for Kangaroo and Koala..and yes Indeed, we get to saw some of them, Kangaroo having a young jumping in and out of the mother's pouch! Reli nice seeing it..

After a short walk in the park, we have gotta get moving so that we could get to the Twelve apostle by sunset! So our first stop along the Great Ocaen Road would be a whale nursery beach where we can see the whale from the beach. We have one on that day! Its better than none and it reminds me of the Whale watching tour back in Port Macquarie in Summer 2007, its a complete disaster where the sea was so rough and can hardly see any whale, and u r more likely to guaranteed a chance of vomitting rather than seeing whale! Back to G.O.R., even though its raining and windy, we kept looking for about 20min and then head to another spot.

Along the coastline of GOR, we went to couple of beauiful spot for look out, including london bridge..listen to stories, and we finally came to the Twelve Apostle! Its not twelve of them I would verify here, and its not bcz some have fallen either, just because its the name of it for commercila purposes..originally it have 13 after all, some have colapsed, and some new one are being creating by the nature all these while..The view was reli fantastic! Sunset of Twelve Apostle finally make our day! Right after sunset, we stay there for a chance to look at little penguin coming up to the shoreline, although its raining and VERY VERY windy, we did stay there until the penguin appeared. The wind was so strong and kept blowing the rain onto our faces, I felt like hit by bullets...Its quite painful and chilling I would say..but Its a real good experience and a good chance to train ourselves to combat cold condition (cz we will go to Tasmania later on).

The sun is down, we head to the accomodation, we spent sometime in the kitchen, most of the people were busy cutting onion, cucumber, feta cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes for the salad, while some others were cooking pasta, Todd which is our Tour guide (if I am not mistaken...=) ) was preparing the steak, chicken, and some sausages. Me and ZY CK were chatting with others (Alex from ANU, and Zhi Yun from Sg, hope I am not wrong again..cz I am bad in remember names..) Its the fun bit where everyone were staying in the kitchen or around it to talk and cheers while preparing dinner, its reli wonderful to have so many ppl from different background. There were a few couples from England, Canada, German and Singapore, some other coming from Netherland, and a guy from Spain! Well that night was spent in cheers and chats....another highlights of the night, Zhi Yin and Chan Kit were both having a cold water bath since they were too lazy to take bath and in the end the hot water was finished by others!

Some of the pictures have been uploaded onto facebook photo album: (use the link below)http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=47804&l=56d11&id=659450798

Day 3 of the trips: We continue to explore along the Great Ocean Road, having more and more great spot for photo, having blow by the wind for another day, luckily it wasnt rain..We head to the twelve apostle again to have a view on it under the strong daylight..as the trip goes on, we went for a detour - a helicopter ride! We fly high into the sky and look down to the Twelve apostle from high up! Its a great great experience for me! Quite a lot of first time in this trip! Drive all the way up the Great Ocean Road, stopping by the look out point..its seriously oceanic view all the way...BUT Zhi Yin was still slept most of the time I would say...We went to the starting point of the Great Ocean Road (suppose to be starting, but end point for us since we are going from another direction!) took a Group Photo before we head back to Melbourne!

End of the Trip doesn't means the end of the day, we met Shih Chin in the city, then we went to a German restaurant, name start from H.....something HB..its similar to Lowenbrau in The Rocks, Sydney...The food was nice..very very very nice..I couldn't kept saying that cz u all probably feel nothing..have to taste it by urself when u have a chance to...its located on the Chinatown Precinct in Melbourne CBD..funny thing on that night --> me n Shih Chin were trying to pay by credit card, ebcoming the joke of the day cz the waitress was looking at us when me n Shih Chin were wrestling on my card..SC took my card and hide it..BUT...BUT we did something before we fly to Tasmania! =) Hehe...

After the dinner, took some short walks around the CBD, having look around..just another day to go..Get to transfer some photo into USB before sleepiness caught me..Theregoes another beautiful day in Melbourne!

Holidayzzz...

Clear Blue Sky, Milky way of stars and galaxies...Great Oceanic View, thats what I have got during my recent holiday trip...

Its a long long trip which contained a lot of memories where I could never forget for the remaining of my life. Lets start from Leaving home from randwick to get to the Sydney Domestic airport at 10++pm on Saturday night! I met Zhi Yin's roomate for the first time in Sydney and could be the only time, who knows..anyway, stuffing my living with Zhi Yin's luggage was the last thing that I did in Blenheim house! Waiting for Chan Kit to meet up and then we headed to airport by taking 400 Burwood! Well its not an boring journey I would say, at least not for Zhi Yin..cz she punched in a blue travel ten instead of 2 Brown Travel Ten..started her journey of risk first and the last in Sydney..thinking of going home in 12days she had nothing to worried about..Fortunately..we reach Airport without any consequences o any special event..

Being in the airport, we started to look for a good spot to rest for the coming 5hours of long waiting before we can check in for the flight..Zhi Yin and I were busy brushing our teeth considering might not be able to carry the toothpaste over the custom..(we did get it thru due to the flight is domestic)..Well..Chan Kit (CK) or 'Dou San' din brush his teeth wor..haha not even in the morning before we depart..here comes the FIRST EVER around 11.20pm, we were forced to get out of the airport by the security guard due to the airport is closing down from 12pm til 4am..which means we have to stay outside of the building, out of the building during a WINTER night, 12am-4am...we did tried to get the international airport, but the earliest transport wouldnt make it for our flight at 6am..therefore we decide to stay..and thus began our venture in a Cold freezing night out of the airport building..we Talked, we had Choc Cookies..we shaked, we stand and walked a bit..but STILL we are Frozen!

Waiting and waiting, and yet still waiting for time to pass, winter cold doesn't allow us to fall asleep, at least not for me n Zhi Yin, CK did slept for a while..what a world he can still sleep..GENG!!! Finally the gate open at 4am..we rushed into the building and so happy that we are still there..taking the challenge of cold having nothing to worry when we reach Melbourne o Tasmania later on..haha By the way, this is the first time I can sleep on the flight, and its a reli good one..we reach Melbourne in a flip of eye...I am reli nervous cz I am the one who leads this time, no mistake is allow..we successfully get on a shutter bus and head to the CBD..Reaching in Franklin St, the only thing we had once we step out of the bus is 'SHAKE', and the reason is because its reli windy..poor me have to cover Zhi Yin behind my back too...Well..the next thing is to call Shih Chin..met her in joy and finally we get to her place..which is our lovely home for the next few days..She allow us to stay at her place..and the more interesting thing is she help us to call backpacker and saying we cancel our trip so that they wont charge us..she reli taught me a lesson making tat call...hahaha

Not wasting anytime, we went on with our journey..starting wondering around the street on Melbourne City..first place..Queen Victoria Market! We walked..discussing what we are going to do, But I can still remember Zhi Yin told Shih Chin that she will cook her a dinner, seafood sumore..prawn, fish...somehow she din manage to do that..I guess ZY would remember this and do it some time later in her life gua??? Keep walking and CK, ZY, and SC started to ask for COffee to heal their addiction..probably usable on SC only..haha anyway..walking from Franklin St back on Elizabeth St and all the way down the Melbourne CBD, we walked, we laughed because I keep arguing with ZY for nonsense, just for the sake of good laugh..we take picture of everywhere..even a lamp post..ZY lol...Walk and Walk and Walk..

When we felt hungry attack us..we come to Vietnamese restaurant called Mekong! we ate some noodles...well this meal we settle peacefully..will tell u the reason why i use the word 'peacefully' here later! we had reli good meal and found out tat SC and CK eat veryvery very lil....sigh...which means I have to finish everything in the end...poor me again..After settled our tummy, we keep walking..and takign pictures...went to State Library, Myer..and a lot more...walked along Queen Victoria Garden, the Arts Centre..SouthGate..have some Cake which is similar to Kaya Ball in malaysia..instead of having Kaya they would use butter, strawberry spread, honey, and lemon for spread..they came across Magic show, taking picture with Stone Man...walk all the way back to CBD on Flinder St..

Our Next Destination - Melbourne University, we bought some tram pass from 7-11 and heading northeast of the city..we took some picture under a tree, filling with bloody red flowers...its reli beautiful, and we decide to take picture under that building to pretend that we are graduating from Melb Uni instead..hahaha stay there for about hald an hour just to take a great great picture..unfortunately the best would still only be able to capture by our own eye!!
After That, dinner in Lygon St, in Cafe Cavallino..an Italian restaurant..having some great pizza, we then had some ice cream! Its always great to have ice cream during winter since it will never melt!!! THE most important thing is, we had DURIAN flavor, with two others, I cant reli remember wat is it called but one is choc with chips, another is green tea if I am not mistaken..

Its reli reli enjoyable and Its the first day of our trip! Stay Tuned!!

What is 'the aim' of my life?

Everyone has an aim to achieve in his or her life time, what's mine?

I have a few in my mind at the moment, sadly all of them seems far yet I seriously feel I needed to achieve that..Just read through MalysiaKini, Updated myself with some news about fuel price hikes event in Malaysia, having so many unhappy comments, feel sort of unhappy, furious about what and how the government have been treated the people in his country! At the same time, there is some sourness because it is my beloved home country, a country that I have live in for the past 19 years of my life, what does it means? It contains more than 90% of my memory, 90% of my lfietime spent in the same country.but what it have done?

Disappointment after disappointment, when will the gov realise what is going to happen, what is going to be in the future, did they plan? do they ever thought about it? What is about future? U have massive amount of high quality palm oil, but what they have done? nothing except sell it for crap price..why they need to do that? god knows..What I can do? will the idea of biofuel accepted? by a country who are exporting oil? but yet at the same time importing low quality oil? Would they be any biotechnologist in the country to step up and get the idea around the leader? I aint think so..its so sad yet pathetic..

A country with 3 races, with more than hundred or thousands of great food, wide variety until u cant having try all of that in one week, but yet, gov policies of having bumiputeras in local company or gov department has destroyed everything...when the quota would have be gone? Until when we still need to get out of the country to survive? why? its my country, its our country..sad..

Anyway, not reli hope my point being heard or anything, just having it said..not very loud, but at least i sound out..the 'aim'. it would sound perfect if i can serve my country, but do they need me? Will they ever appreciate what we did? Its getting more grey in having a developed country in such a short period of time..not until they are awake...

Biotechnology is the key, at least in near future, biofuel will take over, for the time after petroleum fuel is gone and right before hydrogen fuel is ruling the whole industry, and I hope they can see that..more to be mentioned, the policies, the rules and regulation, its just pathetic after all...

If I have graduated as a Microbiologist, what I can do for my country? There is lots of thing That I can do for the sake of the country but yet would it be appreciate?

Learning to appreciate..live a life that will not regret in later life...and I am still waiting for the calls...

End of one wave..Another is coming..

Today is the last day of presentation for this semester..just finished Bacteria and Disease presentation and it went well..since Mini proj's presentation, has been having some sort of mental stresses..Sigh...now have Biotech Report and Grant Research Proposal..

Even a pHD student never do GRP before..what a Great practice for me..hope I can go through it..The report is also a hardcore job...reli hope that everything can go thorugh quickly and fly to melbourne and tasmania soon!!!

Anyway, just read Pig head's blog, what a relief she has been safe..but somehow getting bored of her job. Be patient!! I work in supermarket for 1 and half years, in lab for 6months now, everything is sort of the same, I mean in the supermarket..just require your manpower..not much of brain stuff..But lab is diff, always brain...thats y I have headache recently...

Never have a Panda eye, not even when I am studying in TARC or UNSW, but the working time, lab time, assignment have rewarded me with a slight dark ring..omg..I reli dun hope this would affect my health..LIFE LIFE LIFE..

What is the main purpose of getting money, earning money? Is experience worth more than that? What if you have someone or something that u get hold of..like a Family! Would it change your mind..

Presentation Chain

What is the purposes of presentation? To let people know or understand some concept that they haven't reli look into? Do I need to take it as if they dun know everything? Your audience are all dumb and not understand, so please be concern and clear cut..that What I have been told by one of my lecturer in the past..

So what is my presentation and what is it all about? Summary of the presentation are as below:

1) Environmental Microbiology
Marine bacteria Pseudoalteromonas tunicata is capable of producing broad range of inhibitory compounds including antifungal, anti-larvae, antidiatom, antibacteria and etc. It appears to be one of the major focus of in the finding of bioactive compounds from the marine environment in corporating in biofouling activity. for example, AlpP is a bacteriolytic protein produced by P. tunicata that has antimicrobial properties by disrupting the inner membrane of a bacteria leading to rapid leakage of inner cell component such as iron and others and subsequently cell death is occur. How does it relate to us? It has a high potential in providing environmental friendly solution for marine biofouling problem and increase energy efficiency in shipping industry by prevention of fouling on ship surfaces. It could played a role that has highest impact to human since earth's resources is gradually depleting, providing an alternative to conserve energy resources of the earth.

2) Bacteria and Disease
The role of iron in bacterial pathogenesis is enormous in causing disease. Iorn could acts as a transcriptional regulator for Fur gene by altering the gene expression thus leading to other virulence factors to be transcribed. Iron is one of the major growth factor for bacterial growth, without iron bacterial will not survive nor multiply. Therefore bacteria has acquired several different methods to recruit iron from the environment or from host. example of iron scavenging leads to disease is the production of hemolysin by S. aureus could lyse red blood cell and releasing iron from the hemoglobin. End result is the bacteria could obtained iron while the host would having a severe damage to the system due to extensive cell lysis if the bacteria is multiplying in amount. More...

3) Marine Microbiology Project
A natural bioactive compound, Pyocyanin is produced synergistically by two distinct marine bacterial species. The isolation of marine bacteria from Hawaiian Islands to look for natural product that has antibacterial and antifungal activities. Unusual green phenotype produced leads to the study of antibacterial and antifungal assay using E. coli and S. cerevisieae. Production comes from two bacterial species, Enterobacter and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Interaction study responsible for the produciton of pyocyanin include inhibition assay, Ratio determinant assay, Small molecule induction assay and Boyden Chamber assay suggesting that a complex mechanism of metabolite exchange between two bacterial species is favorable option. Characterisation of the natural product (pyocyanin) using X-ray structure, 2D-NMR, and more also review the properties of pyocyanin. Moreover, the mode of action of the pyocyanin was tested using trancriptomic assay of yeast. Pyocyanin was found out to be the inducer of oxidative stress, cell wall damage and DNA damage as the most probable mode of action. Result showed that production of natural bioactive compounds could have been related to a bacterial communities rather than pure culture that has been practising in the past.

That's roughly what is all my project about..anyone interested in it could possibly hit a reply and comment..Thanks

Its a good rehearsal though to brainstorming any information that could be left out..but sure of cz its not everything in here...Haha

Alright, time to do stuff!

No Matter - Angel

A song that bring up all the feeling in a headache night..soon after Bacteria and Disease Mid session exam, its been a totally hectic moment where headache started to strike all in a sudden and lasted for a whole day!

However, meeting with Staffan brings good news and have got the full support from him, happy with that.

Went back to Coles to get something, met Mochtar, chat like never seen him for a very very long time.

Remember of a Song - Ming Tian Jian by Cindy Wong reminds me of another person..which is so much more feeling involved in a day.

Its been more than a day, and still I found it sank quite deep into the ocean and would never come up again..All these feeling seems to drive my day..

Time to get back to study!

A day where its a so called 'holiday' for me! Just finish work from 4-8am, so its free for the rest of the day..up to me for all the rest of the day..

A day where PIG head's Birthday falls on, and its her 21st Birthday! What a big big day! finally BIG enough to vote? haha Hope she will be able to see this today la! HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUI HOONG! feel sorry cant buy her any present..but did sent her a ''voucher'' hahaha..

A day where I have so many different kind of feeling, happy, appreciative, sad, boredom, loneliness, funny, sarcastism, anger,...etc etc I guess the main cause would be email sent by Pig head, a song from Cousin long time ago..just found out when I rearrange my pictures taken recently, all my result's pic, Pics for Beach Volleyball, second round is just around the corner and so sad that I will definitely miss it..look at all those clips, analysing my football skills looking at those video clips of mine when we were in Sunway in Feb...

A day where I look at all those memorable video clips

A day where I will have to go back to lab..which is usual..

A day where I would play Facebook, been daily activities recently..haha

A day where I can sleep later than 9.30pm at night..

A day where I decided to write this blog!

Alright, better get going..lab time, revision is on the way since mid session exam is fallling on next week and unfortunately 3 in a roll..Lucky Me..

See ya..Again, Happy Birthday to my Pig Head Sis!

Friday, April 18, 2008

Finally, its time to take a deep Breath!!

Its been a long long time where I could have a afternoon nap for 2hrs..lol

Have been working overtime for the last few day, sleep only 5hrs a day, work 4-8am in the morning in supermarket, then head back to the lab to carry out experiment, and attend classes in sort of tiredness..

Work in Coles is not too hard, starting not to care too much, people takign advantage when u work too hard, take it for granted..and to work by myself until 8am where there should be another person coming in at 7am..so so so freaking crazy..not suppose to be like tat...How can you just leave me to work by myself..??

Study, busy time, mid session, assignment, just submitted Poster Abstract for Envi. Micro on Wednesday and literature search for BABS3301 today, more is coming next week where Bacteria & Disease essay on Monday, Intro + Method for Env. Micro Major Project on Wednesday, Biotech Primer Design on Thursday..Omg..so scary when I think about it..

Lab work, hard hard hard..my bacteria doesn't seems to mutate. lasy bastard, rather die than mutate..want a spontaneous mutant of bacteria resistant to Streptomycin 200ug/ml! Once I get mutant have to go into transposon mutagenesis straight away...require to screen at least 1000+ mutant for statistical significant result..worrying not able to finish the exp in time..dun wana disappoint Staffan since he gave me such an opportunity..Work Hard Work Hard!

Back to work, chao..

Excited!!!

Well..a great great news for me yesterday!

Just got the offer letter from UNSW Scholarship department regarding the offer of UNSW Honours Year Scholarship..This is a freaking big news which I will never expected at anytime..declare Holiday if I can..hahaha

Anyway, just trying so hard to share the joy with everyone that I loved and care for..Things getting better, smoother, life still goes on!! Go Go Go Pigbrain..Thats another day and time to start doing transposon mutagenesis work from today onwards..Another challenge that I would face..

I am so glad that I could have that in my life..

Well, UNSW Div 2 Volleyball team just won a Bronze in Illawarra State Cup without me..But I won the Volleyball Championship for MSO UNSW in Malaysian Student Inter-Uni Game! Its fun though..One or another..thats life!

Time to keep going!

Never talk to anyone??

Have been so busy after easter break, can't reli think of anything hat I have done so far..feel bored, stupid...

Been focusing on Lab test yesterday and Literature review for Biotech since Easter week..do suxx in lab test..lit review should be fine..just write watever I can..have been observing for my antibacterial, antifungal and antidiatom assay for the entire week..got some weird result..but dun reli have time to bother much since lab test n lit review is in the way..now just clear it up..seems bored..

Going to do MIC tmr..yeah lab again!! tats right..Sunday in Uni Syd for MSO Volleyball event..hopefully will be a great one..Just think of anything that I will be doing and watever I can do..aimlessly boring yet I am so much to do actually...haven write my lab book since Monday! Terrible huh..have all those sticky notes for all the observation and results..

Easter Break!!

Well, easter Break in UNSW suppose to be a whole holiday week, although might have some assignments, yet its still consider holiday nia..

My Easter Break 2008 in Sydney is totally spoiled..well cant say completely have nothing..just tat receiving heaps and heaps of knowledge, accumulated tiredness, heaps of lab work, and heaps of early sleep...

My routine for Tuesday to Friday (This Morning) was sleep at 9.30-10pm, wake up at 3.40am, go to work until 8am, and then have breakfast at home (could be a short one...not much time tho..) lab for Bacteria & Disease from 9am till 1pm, lunch break an hour, back in 2pm till 6pm..

Reach home, first thing to do - cook dinner, eat it, take bath, facebook, check mail, sleep...zzz isnt tat crapp??! Today is the worst, thought can finish B&D earlier at 1pm, group meeting with Eric, Arthur and Han Fui till 3.30pm, in the end have to stay in the lab doing serial dilution and drop plate till 7pm..

The Conclusion is : I have got exhausted body, exhausted brain, still actively typing finger, half closed eye...etc etc

This is the crappiest mid session break that I have ever had! Heaps of knowledge being pushed into my brain..a bit full at the moment..its time to defragment again..or else lag is inevitable..

Luckily!!! Tmr and Sunday will be free..but not actually cz Saturday at least have to go to lab for 3-4hrs if I can do quickly, anything wrong could make me stay for 5hrs long...T__T

Close to sleeping time..gtg Siam write my lab book instead of blog!! haha

Easter Shows 2008

Its a lovely Sunday morning, with all the sunlight and autumn heat..

Go to meet at Central Train Station in Eddy Av. around 10am, but unfortunately have to go back to uni to observe my activity assays' result..No matter how, back home and have breakfast (Ham Sandwich + Fried rice from MAMAK)..and catch a bus to Central..very unlucky that we just missed 372 for less than 5min, have to catch another bus 377 o 373 to go to the central..

Suppose to have Zhi Yin on the bus too but she missed it while watching us (Me, Kuan and Han Fui) at the traffic light on the opposite side of the road..haha..Kuan said he had the feeling that she wouldnt be able to catch that bus..and he did it!!! lol..

Meet Cat, Wei Sheng, Sherwin, William, Lip Son, Derrick and Zhi Yin in Central..then we catch a train to Sydney Olympic Park where the shows is held..well..with 10 of us on the train..it seems not so quiet and harmony..cz basically we (3 of us) being late for around 10min and Cat desperately wanted a culprit from us..and in the end..Cat did finalised it and put my name on it with another Pizza as part of the punishment...T__T

Well..reach there around 10.30am..time to get some fun...First thing that we did were buy some showbags for Rachel, Hello Kitty showbag and Pokemon Showbag..while Zhi Yin and Cat have a Cadbury showbag with a red...duno wat its called? sorry for that..XP mine is a Freddo showbag with heaps of chocolate..walk around..see around...lots and lots of people around..but not as described by Vee in which people will walk back to back and just go off in that way for the whole day..

First Show that we had look at was Motor free-styler, V6 car Rally, and Danger Man and Danger Woman...still remember where DMDW missed their tyre on the wire and stucked there for hours...bit of funny yet pathetic cz its reli hot..Sunburn for everyone!! We sat down in which the sun just shotting those UV and heat at us without sympathy...poor us..its reli reli reli hot..its pain.

Anyway, the show is reli reli fun and exciting in my opinion, no idea how others think about it..but its reli amazing..the V6 rally is reli amazing with all those superior driving skill..I guess it was rubbing each other still but seems fine from up there in the seats..enjoying the shows with chic schnitzel and chips..Free styler motor show with all kind of deadly show..just as shown in the video and pics below...:

Well..finish the show after an hour and keep walking around with the map printed by Cat at 2am..night before..(show appreciation)..and looking for foods and drinks..such as sausages, cheesy bread, choc banana which is so straight and have an argument with Zhi Yin about it..will show u the pic about it and let u judge whether its a real banana or not? and then we head to the Woodchoping Shows..NZ won the game, follow by Aus, USA and Canada..kind of fun but its real hot out there..reli sympathy about them having contest under the hot blazing sun..

After that, straight up continue with more walks...lunch time..sit down have a break..the Classic during the lunch time would be Lindt's Voodoo doll and Key presented by Cat..not saying anymore cz she is real sad about it..Burger..drinks, lemonade...

More walks into animal farm including piglet, sheep, cow...etc etc..Showbags, food tasting session would be much more fun cz we were trying stall-by-stall basis to have all the foods including chilli with bread, dried fruits like mangoes, strawberries..fruit juices..etc etc..real fun hei..

After that went into the extreme park where all the exciting rides located..well those rides would be better than Gold Coast Dreamworld I guess..cz its more excitement, and more fun with more ppl may be..10 of us, 7 on the rides..wahahah..including Zhi Yin..cant believe isnt it..lol

Drizzling at night around 8pm, luckily we are well prepared and have enough umbrella..well just to finishing the coupon, play as many rides as we can..and I did some 3 points basketball game..din score one..T__T..and thats the end..

Finale would be a 10min long firework, its reli nice cz I just reach the stadium and the firework goes off within 5s, can u believe it? haha..

Rush to Train station as fast as we can once the firework is over, but still with running, jogging and walking, we still miss the train by split second..we are right in front of the door when its closing..sigh..Back to Central and back home for dinner.

Well real time Finale would be supper with Shih Chin from Melbourne, she is one of my senior from TARC who came here 2 years earlier than me..have a nice talk with her brother, Kuan Minn, Zhi Yin, Cat, and long time no see - Kif..haha Well..I think thats long enought for a day!

Look forward to the next trip, most desired location would be New Zealand o Cairns!

Buzz Week..

A week where I cant even chat with my dad n mom..

Working 4-9am in Coles, class at 10am..its reli painful to work tat much cz I am nearly a full time student + part time lab researcher or close to full timer in lab work I suppose..+ casual / part time worker in Coles..so its freaking Extra full timer I am..

Just had some time to play some mahjong, lami, its Good Friday and everyone seems to back to uni to do lab work..so DO I..stay in lab for 3hrs again today..I think would be more than 20hrs I suppose..and not getting very good result in research work..SIANzzz

Read Some blog..RH's blog is a bit weird..cz tat Pig Head mad at herself..funny hei? But yea..I admit that her life in NUS is reli stressful..haha can feel it cz I spent the most time reading in tat 3 days in NUS for the entire holiday that I have had for the past 5 weeks..lol Not exaggerating man..its real and I have read more than 30 pages...Ecological science research bits of reading due to my summer research..Be Cool and Calm my sis..

Life getting more and more packed..literature review, SDU = Student Diagnosis Unit for bacteriology study in lab during Easter week, Mid sem Exam right after tat..Literature Search for my Mini Project..and etc etc..Cant imagine I am typing non sense here and still killing time...

Time to get some real progress and looking forward to Easter Show...a day of workfree...

Tired, Frustrated, Exhausted....another lab book in the way!!! T_T

Oh yeah! Just remember there was a real time incident happen on Thursday where one of my colleague got rob by three freaking sluts on the street..He was on the street towards Coles, well so DO I was on the street too..But I am just 5min behind him..Thats how I get my ass out of tat..real escapee..I nearly run into those 3 sluts when I was walking floatingly due to sleepiness..But I remain cautious when I saw them on the street and walk silently and slowly..phew..they crossed the street right in front..LUCKY!! But my colleague got bitten real hard..Bleeding over his uniform and lost his mobile and some bucks..Just thank god that I am 1 o 2min later..or else I would be the victim..gona get myself some pepper spray and stuff to protect myself..Real Scare...gona have the same shift next week T_T

+ Frightened now...Work WOrk!!

Give up Volleyball?

Its a really big decision...

Volleyball give me so much fun for all these years..but at this moment it had been a 'burden'? for me?

First of all, play volleyball cost me $300 for club fees, roughly $120 for each of the state cup, and $10-15 for everyday sunday during SVL.

Second, it cost me 4 hours of training per week, which is reasonable, but each of the state cup will the state cup will cost me more than 2 days, which is whole weekend..Its costly in tat way....

So..should I stay on and could I? Cause I still need to work 20hours a week in Coles, plus unlmited hours in lab for my mini project..with 3 other courses tat would cost me heaps and heaps of time..Even when I just came back from Newcastle State Cup yesterday around 4.30pm, have been to lab since 5pm-8.++pm..

Can I choose to have more time each day instead? In that way I would be able to do everything...Well, shift in Coles has been given 4-9am for 3-4days a week...I am gona be Vampire I reckon..Anyway..time to study and sleep in another one hour..

Just finish reading RH's blog..looks like she have been thanking everyone..writing appreciation letter huh? lol..anyway Have To STUDY by now..ANYONE could give me an answer?

STAY ON @ play?

Zero Break!

Today I have experienced zero break day!

Started when I wake up from 8am, and reach uni at 9am for Bacteria and Disease Lab class, its a holy long day for me...

For your information this is the first week of my semester! The lab took 4hours from 9am-1pm with only 5min break, where tat 5 min I had used it for checking my plates in micro lab (mini project!) Then it last till 1pm..

The first thing tat comes into mind for sure is LUNCH BREAK! However I have no chance to think about it any second and rush to my lab and start mixing the overnight cultures and serial dilution for 6 isolates! (Seems easy right? Its 3 replicates for each isolates and also one negative control --> Total 19 serial dilution needs to be done!)

Well, the good thing is I have Nigel (my supervisor) to help me, but the bad thing is he pipetted 50ul for serial dilution, in which the protocol require 100ul....T.T Again, things have to be repeat for those 3isolates tat he had done!

Biotech A lan class started at 2pm, went to tutorial room and have a KitKat brought from home by Han Fui, and listening to Russ and Jeff tutoring about lab safety and the significance of Lactococcus subspecies lactis in cheese making industry...Havent even finish my SD man...omg..listening to them are better than anything to bring me into subconcious state..sleep!

However, have a 20min break around 3.40pm, run back to lab for SD, done another 6 out of 9, I am DONE! no break after tat...nothing I can do, will leave it for Nigel to finish it! Sorry for troubles my supervisor..=(

lab finish at 6pm with bloody Cheese testing Concept tutorial..Yeah You are Right! We test and taste 7 different type of cheese during the class and have to record the taste including taste, aroma, texture and colour of the cheeses...lol Is tat a Heaven?

Its not end tat quick man, work in Coles started at 6pm..supposingly but I went in 10min past 6pm, have to finish 10 past too...T.T

After 4hours of combating..reach home around 20 past 10pm with terribly exhausted flesh..Fried rice by myself..just learn to leave a portion for tmr's lunch in Uni too..too bad tat my lunch would be KitKat..

Wat a day..ZEro Break!!!

4am shift @_@

First 4am shift in Coles for the year of 2008, or preferably semester 1 of 2008. Being too alert for the entire night and woke up for a few times before 3.40am, because I am afraid that mobile might not be working, alarm might not sound..etc etc

Things that I need to do:
(1) Throw - get rid of all the bad fruits and vege, nearly all because those vege staying out of cold room for whole night already..10-15min

(2) Refill - get all the vege refill with new one from cold room, just get everything out of cold room, that the most desired outcome, unfortunately its just too difficult nowadays, always fully loaded cold room at night!..30min

(2B) Value Added - Take up most time, rearranging, check date..and stuff..30-45min

(2C) Cuts - cut watermelon, honeydew, pineapple, papaw...45min

(3) Tidy up the Back - get all the crates onto pellet and wrap it up when its done!..5min

(4) Wait for the load - When the load is here, get all the empty stuff onto the shelf (quickest part) cz I like it when I can fill alot of stuff..too boring when need to fill small small stuff..no feeling!..1-2hrs

(5) Chao at 9am - Most of the things done!

Is it too easy? Dun think I can lost weight with that..Anyway, back to lab now!

Democracy!!

Malaysia is finally proved to be a democratic country?

Why Government want to denied 2/3 majority in parliment. Is that another decision to prevent Malaysia to become more democratic?

There is always choices to make, and this time Malaysian had make the better choice due to so many decisions that made by the government had prove to rise the people's disagreement. BN (Barisan National) had lost 5 state in the latest election just happened 2days ago showed that people's anger and unhappy with previous government. What we hope for is a new resolution for the government and decision that pleased the people..If you ask me what the decision would be, I couldn't be able to answer because people are so difficult to be please with..lol

Anyway, even my Prof and supervisor let me choose what I would like to do for my project..Completely up to me, due to knowledge and time constraint, not much can be decide but choose for the one the I can learn and do in shortest time!

Will be re-screen all the isolates that can live with D2, then test it with the inhibitory activity testing and follow by transposon mutagenesis. It will be time consuming process and exhaust my energy for sure. Despite the difficulty and challenge of the task, I am looking forward to Fight!

Will you too? for Freedom? Cheers for Malaysia!

Rush or Rest?

Rush or Rest are always the choices to make in Life!!

Sometimes when everything is ready, you might be feeling reluctant to rush, considering rest as the best choice. In the other end, you might not be able to do anything because nothing is prepare.

Instant example, planning to grow my bacteria by tonight, so I have more than 24hrs for growth, but I just found out that the samples being moved to somewhere else due to freezer maintenance, I have no where to ask, have to Sit back and relax for weekend. Is that a choice to make?

Rush, because I want to proceed to my next stage of experiment quicker, the quicker I move forward the better I can answer the question arised!

Rest, is also essential, for proceeding to next stages in life. Its also important for the beginning of a brand New day!

Wats your choice?

Rush or Rest?

Philosophy of Blogging

My phylosophy of blogging would be writing up for people to see and read what I have done, what I have known..whats my feeling..

Somehow as advised by Han Fui, blog should be written more on the things tat I understand and things That I should share such as knowledge..

Anyone has any idea What it should be, welcome for any advice or comments!

Wake up in the morning and start putting this up..isn't that nice? ^.^ Am waiting to go to the lab actually, but I dun have access yet so still need to wait for my friends to get there, card access only be done next week...T.T (Don't ask me to wait outside the building till the next person go in and follow their back..its embarassing, I have tried once last summer..)

As far as I am concern, my experties would be volleyball, half in soccer I guess, science..still a newborn in this field..well let me know if anyone interested..lol

Day 4 (Fri-today) :
- Meeting with A.Prof Mike Edwards at 9am to arrange my enrolment, finally done after so many months planning..
- Met Staffan at 10pm and talk about my mini project for the following 12 weeks..would be roughly confirming those positive result to be able to live with D2 as a reproducible result, and then follow by --> sequencing (those tat have not been squenced before) --> transposon mutagenesis to find out genes responsible for D2 resistant! --> Chemistry analysis of responsible product..If everything went well would certainly reach transposon stage..hope o complete tat stage as I could answer the Question: What makes it resist to D2's antibiotic activities? which is so EXCITING!!!
- Get HEATER from garage and warm the room up to kill insects..together with Mortein Insecticides Spray (the room was like Sauna..lol)
- Back to Uni to prepare media..since started next week, have to get those isolates to grow on Monday in case I need to finish Serial dilution by friday, cz weekend will be leaving to Newcastle for Volleyball State Cup!!

Back In Sydney

Back in Sydney yesterday, being so busy since arrived in Sydney...

The first thing to do was CLeaning!!! the spider was too rude, taking up too much space until we cant tolerate anymore, the last resort was to destroyed their home to reclaim our small teritory...Hehe..1.5hours of cleaning including vacuuming, wipe out all the dust, windows, and also toilet..it was a completely mess!! Just like have been abandon for yeeears..

Neway, after cleaning will be time to find my manager, my job is just as essential, cz it has been supporting all my living expenses in Sydney, but unfortunately my manager wasnt on shift, therefore just had a short chat with colleague ( Suria, Jay & Poppy) to get to know what had happened when I was away, surprisingly, short of staffs, Poppy keep losing weight, ppl still suffering whole lot of pressure from above..sigh..bought some Chic Thigh ($8 - 0.75kg) and marinated with Sesame oil + Salt + pepper ( usual flavor) lol..for dinner!! Thats life in Sydney, everything is expensive, only choice would be cooking..sigh..

Even though everything is ready ( cause Han fui bought vege from Oriental also), in the end we decide to have dinner outside since its too tired..went to Noodle house in Maroubra Junction, but I had Thai Basil Pork Rice. lol $8.5 It just cant be any cheaper..tats the moment I keep complaining about Food in NUS..wat a worlD..

Nighttime would be SligHtly interesting - play 'Chim La Mi' with Kuan, ZHi yin, Han Fui & Khoon. Play until 2am..lol Bad luck, never has good cards for the whole night..

Second day
Wake up, went to find My manager, confirm my shift on Thur and Sunday, also confirm meeting with Prof. Staffan (my project supervisor in UNSW) and A.Prof Mike Edwards reagarding enrolment problems, finally settle most of the stuffs and have time to go to uni for a walk. Went to Orientation Street, which is full of all the stall set up by Societies and Club..Settle my OSHC and queue up for Student ID card too...OMG..the new ID card is like a Gold card from any bank!!! Looks so pro...lol

Volleyball Training at 5pm-7pm, still hitting the net all the time..sigh..i thought I lose weight...
By the way, there are alot of people said I look thinner (Grace, Sunny, Cat..etc), Taller (Cat), and handsome (en dao..XP - Grace)..lol

Dinner as usual, but the busiest thing tat I need to do is cleaning all my clothes, because of abandon for too long, my leg kind of allergic (might be flees??) Thats why has been spending whole afternoon washing my clothes and dry under the sun, unfortunately living room are being crowded by my clothes..lazy to laugh dy..cz so tired looking at all the clothes..

and Now killing some time by writing all these up..Will be writing about things that I have done in Malaysia for the past 5 weeks..Soon enough..now is time to Oi Oi..meeting tmr morning..

Work sumore T.T
